Footage taken on Tuesday shows young people in national costumes lining up along a carpeted walkway in the lobby, singing and chanting in Hindi: "Long live India! Long live the friendship between Russia and India!"

Earlier on Tuesday, the head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, met Modi at the Kazan’s Gabdulla Tuqay International Airport.

The 16th BRICS Summit is scheduled for October 22-24. World leaders from 22 countries are expected, with delegations from 36 nations, for one of the major economic, political and cultural events of the decade.

Russia has chaired BRICS since January 1, 2024. The group also expanded this year, growing in both size and influence to nearly half the world’s population and a third of the global economy.
