Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday.

Footage shows the diplomats shaking hands and posing for photos, after which they began discussions.

"So very good to see you again. I hope the discussions in Moscow were useful," Lavrov told Fidan.

The Turkish Foreign Minister arrived in Moscow on Monday, where he met with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu. The parties discussed issues of Russian-Turkish security cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats.

The BRICS Foreign Ministers' meeting was held on June 10-11 in Nizhny Novgorod. According to the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the partners met under Russia’s chairmanship to discuss the potential for collaboration on political, security, economic and humanitarian matters.

Foreign ministers from countries of the SCO, ASEAN, the Indian Ocean Rim Association For Regional Co-Operation, the African Union, the League of Arab States and other organisations also took part in an extended session on the sidelines of the event.

Russia has been chairman of the BRICS grouping since January 1, 2024, when five countries became full members of the bloc, namely Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.
