Description

Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitri Peskov stated on Thursday that Moscow was considering different options for responding to 'Western interference' in the conflict in Ukraine.

"In response to this constantly growing involvement and the ongoing tension escalation on the continent by the West, Russia is working on various options, but no decisions have yet been made. Indeed, as you are aware, Russian foreign policy is determined by the President of the Russian Federation, the head of state, and is carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Peskov said.

The Kremlin spokesperson also commented on calls by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov for blood feuds against the families of terrorists.

"It was said in the context of those who condone terrorism, and those who are directly or indirectly involved in terrorist activities. There is no doubt that the fight against terrorists must be uncompromising and as tough as possible," Peskov explained.

On Tuesday, Kadyrov said it was necessary to 'punish the relatives' of those accused of terrorism, stating that one must not violate life and must understand that in such a case there would be blood revenge.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov claimed that Moscow was considering the possibility of downgrading diplomatic relations with Western countries in response to anti-Russian policy.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
