Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitri Peskov said that the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) demonstrated Russia’s desire for 'business co-operation based on equality, law and mutual benefit', while speaking to journalists in Moscow on Wednesday.

"Russia is a country with a development rate above the global average. Russia acknowledges the significant change of global political and economic conditions. Russia favours business co-operation based on equality, law and mutual benefit to interested countries and entrepreneurs," he said.

Peskov also stressed that Washington's threats of sanctions against Beijing due to exports of alleged 'dual-use' products to Russia were 'inappropriate and unacceptable'.

"We are well aware that our Chinese friends do not accept this kind of language, messages and threats, such blackmail. <...> We know for a fact that the Chinese do not like it. We stand in solidarity with our Chinese friends on this issue and consider such a tone completely inappropriate and unacceptable," he noted.

On June 4, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen called for reducing the flow of 'dual-use' products from Beijing to Moscow 'that could be crucial to Russia's military'. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken previously made the same allegation, while China and Russia have accused Washington of trying to interfere in legitimate trade.

SPIEF 2024, held from June 5-8, is expected to attract over 17,000 people from across 136 countries. The forum has been an annual event since 1997.
