A delegation of Russian State Duma deputies paid a working visit to the Akkuyu nuclear power plant (NPP) construction site in Turkey's Buyukeceli, the press service of the Rosatom State Corporation reported on Thursday.
The footage shows the Russian deputies observing the construction process of the plant.
"There are no such examples [of NPP construction] in the world. As a rule, construction is carried out block by block, but here, there are four units at the same time. This is also the peculiarity of the construction. It requires the use of very large technological and, of course, human resources and production. Today, we have 34,000 people working on the project," said Pavel Zavalny, Head of the State Duma Committee on Energy.
According to the MP, the power plant construction is going according to plan, despite the difficulties and peculiarities of the work.
"Despite the problems that have arisen during the construction process, first of all, the COVID pandemic, the earthquake and the sectional restrictions, the construction is proceeding on schedule and in accordance with the contract," he emphasised.
Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant under construction in Turkey. The project includes four power units with Russian designed generation 3+ VVER power reactors. The capacity of each power unit is 1,200 megawatts.
The project is fully financed by the Russian side and is being implemented according to the intergovernmental agreement signed between Russia and Turkey on May 12, 2010. The construction launch ceremony was held in 2018 by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with Russian President Vladimir Putin joining him via video link.
