Description

The Russian Defence Ministry has reported that the crew of an Uragan multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) of the Vostok group of forces has struck enemy targets in the South Donetsk military offensive zone.

Footage published on Saturday shows the unit in operation, with crew members moving into position and firing a series of rocket salvos at the target.

"The target was a command post. We received the target coordinates. I called the crews, they received the command to engage, camouflaged their equipment, moved to the firing position, and we began to operate," explained the MLRS battery senior officer, call sign Ural.

The senior officer added that MLRS units are on duty around-the-clock, maintaining readiness to repel attacks and support offensive operations.

"We're in a constant state of readiness, 24/7. We can be assigned a target at any time. We are always ready to move out, to begin operating against a target. We receive various targets, we provide artillery support for the offensive, we help our infantry, assault squads, we perform a counter-battery combat role," the senior officer added.

At the time of publication, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) had confirmed in its briefing that hostilities are taking place near Georgievka, Krasnogorovka, Konstantinovka and Paraskovievka, in close proximity to the South Donetsk combat zone, where 'the number of engagements has increased to 11'.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
