Senegalese Foreign Minister Yassine Fall praised bilateral co-operation with Russia based on 'friendship and mutual respect' and said Senegal wanted to expand 'economic relations' with the country, at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Thursday.

"Our bilateral relations are founded on robust traditions of mutual respect, friendship and shared interests. <...> Thank you for your efforts to raise the level of our relations and know that we are always at your disposal. We are ready to co-operate and hope to raise the level of our interaction in the field of economic relations," she said.

In turn, Lavrov expressed confidence that Fall's experience in the international arena would be invaluable.

"Our bilateral relations are founded on robust traditions of mutual respect, friendship and shared interests. I am confident that your extensive experience in the international arena, including within the UN structures, will facilitate the continuity of our relations and enhance co-ordination within multilateral structures," Lavrov said.

The ministers are expected to hold a joint press conference following the talks later in the day.
