Description

Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitri Peskov said on Tuesday that Moscow was ready to negotiate with Paris on Ukraine 'to the same extent' as the French are, adding that no pre-conditions were needed.

"The president has repeatedly declared his openness to negotiations, especially those for a cause, for achieving a clear result. The president has stated on numerous occasions that we are ready for dialogue to the same extent that our vis-a-via are. And there are no conditions needed for this," he stated.

Peskov also pointed out that the Kremlin did not see any preconditions for normalising dialogue with France.

Commentin on a new sanctions package by the European Union, Peskov said Moscow believes the measures were 'unlawful' and 'we strongly oppose them'.

During a podcast, French President Emmanuel Macron did not exclude the possibility of resuming dialogue with the Russian leader Vladimir Putin 'on one issue or another'.

"It was not us who initiated to rolling back the dialogue and relations, leading, in fact, to a complete shutdown. In the case of France, it was their decision and course," Peskov said.

On 14 December 2023, the Russian president noted that he had good, friendly, working relations with Macron, but his French counterpart had ended them.
