Clergymen arrived at the flooded Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Russia's Orsk to salvage the icons from the floods.

The footage taken on Wednesday shows the Metropolitan of Orenburg and clergyman Vadim Tatus sailing a boat along the flooded road to the church. The video also shows the inside of the flooded church and its territory.

"The water has gone down by a metre, and it is possible to get to the church in these long boots <...> It's terrible here, of course. It must be all the building materials that the water brought here to the door. <...> It's a disaster, of course. There are many ancient icons. So much water; now we are deciding to try to save it all, to evacuate them," Tatus said.

In addition, near the Sunday school at the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, local residents unloaded boxes of food and drinking water for those who suffered during the flood.

The local Orsk administration reported the breach of the protective dam in the Old Town area late on Friday, April 5, triggering widespread flooding, with over 4,000 homes and over 10,000 people affected.

According to the government of the Orenburg region, as of the morning of April 10, 12,817 residential houses and 14,969 plots remain flooded. More than 7,800 people were evacuated, including 2,717 children. 1,415 people, including 262 children, were placed in 40 temporary accommodation centres.

According to the Russian Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM), the flood situation has developed in 39 regions. States of emergency were declared in the Altai, Orenburg, Tyumen and Kurgan regions.
