Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the BRICS organisation increasingly reflected the 'interests and aspirations' of the Global South and East countries, while addressing the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St Petersburg on Thursday.

"I have repeatedly noted that the BRICS is one of the key elements of the emerging multipolar world order, which increasingly reflects the interests and aspirations of the states of both the Global South and East, and our supporters around the world, and their number is very large and growing," Putin said.

The leader also stressed that the BRICS philosophy and principles were about 'reliance on democracy in international relations, respect for sovereignty, and the right to everyone's distinctive development'.

"These principles of BRICS are close and understandable to all participants of our organisation, which is rapidly growing and acquiring a qualitatively new level of influence on the dynamics of events in the world," he added.

The 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum takes place in St Petersburg from July 11-12, with delegations from 17 countries participating. According to organisers, parliamentarians are discussing ways to improve the efficiency of international relations, counter any fragmentation of multilateral trade, address the consequences of global crises, and enhance co-operation in humanitarian and cultural spheres.
