President Vladimir Putin stated that a ground operation in the Gaza Strip would lead to serious consequences for all sides at the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) Heads of State Council meeting in Bishkek on Friday.

"The use of military hardware in residential areas is a difficult task, fraught with serious consequences for all sides. And without hardware, operations in residential areas are even more difficult. And most importantly, civilian casualties will be completely unacceptable. There are almost two million people living there. The most important thing now is to stop the bloodshed," Putin said.

The Russian president stressed that Moscow is ready 'to coordinate with all constructive partners' to organise negoriations between Palestine and Israel.

"Their [the negotiations] goal should be the implementation of the UN two-state formula, which envisages the creation of an independent State of Palestinian with East Jerusalem as its capital, coexisting in peace and security with Israel," Putin said.

Vladimir Putin arrived in Kyrgyzstan for an official visit on Thursday. On Friday, the Russian president takes part in CIS Heads of State Council.

Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on Saturday, October 7, firing thousands of rockets as its militants on the ground broke through into Israeli territory, in what the group described as ‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.’

Israel responded with airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and issued a formal declaration of war on Hamas, warning residents to leave their homes.

The military claimed that Hamas locations would be targeted. Defence Minister Yoav Gallant also announced a 'complete siege' of Gaza, cutting off power, food and water.

Hamas said its latest military operation was due to the long-running Israeli blockade, raids on West Bank cities and other attacks.

At the time of publication, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, 1,900 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip while Israeli authorities reported that at least 1,300 of its citizens were dead following the latest fighting.
