Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz claimed that the West was failing to isolate Russia with its sanctions, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Wednesday.
"We are against the West's attempts to isolate Russia from international organisations, while creating such Russophobia, that is, as if anything that comes from Russia is all bad," he said.
"So I have to state that the West is not succeeding in subjecting Russia [to isolation] after all. We see your country as a real power, a fortress, and we are very proud of your country," Cruz continued.
The US, EU and others have imposed a number of rounds of sanctions on Russia since the start of the military offensive in Ukraine in February 2022.
For his part, Putin said that Russian-Cuban bilateral co-operation should develop in all priority areas, including energy and tourism.
"We know that the illegal sanctions under which Cuba lives have been going on for decades. Nevertheless the Cuban people are coping with it. We, for our part, will do all we can to ensure that our economic co-operation helps to overcome these externally imposed difficulties," the Russian president said.
Manuel Marrero Cruz arrived in Russia on June 6 for an official visit, which continues until Saturday, June 17.
