Description

Russian President Vladimir Putin estimated that almost 1.4 million drones would be produced in the country in 2024, while addressing the Military Industry commission in St Petersburg on Thursday.

"A total of about 140,000 drones of various types were supplied to the Armed Forces in 2023. This year, we plan to increase the production of drones manifold, almost tenfold, to be more precise," he reported.

The President noted that the Russian armed forces' needs in UAVs should be fully covered.

"We need to consistently increase the production of unmanned aerial vehicles, improve their performance characteristics, including actively introducing artificial intelligence elements, which I have already mentioned," he added.

Earlier, the Russian leader visited the Special Technology Centre (STC), where he reviewed drone models and robotic systems. Founded in 2001, the STC produces Orlan drones and develops small satellites known as CubeSats.
