Description

Destruction was evident in an apartment building in Kursk following a UAV attack on Sunday. Footage from the scene showcases severely damaged walls and blown-out windows, with public utility workers actively clearing debris.

Local Margarita Cherkasova recounted her experience: "It happened at about several minutes past seven [in the morning]. I was in the kitchen, working there early. And there was such a strong, terrible bang. And then there was something that appeared to be smoke, but it dissipated very quickly. Then I saw that it was the same colour as the plaster in our house. I thought something must have hit it. I wasn't scared at first. But people, you know, immediately paid attention and started calling, so that all the [emergency] services arrived very quickly."

The Russian Investigative Committee described the incident as a "deliberate UAV attack by the AFU," noting that fragments of the drone collected at the scene would be sent for examination. According to Kursk's Mayor Igor Kutsak, there were no reported casualties from the attack.

At the time of publication, no comment from the Ukrainian side regarding the UAV incident in Kursk has been made.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
