President Vladimir Putin remarked that the campaigns for Russia's presidential election had been conducted in full compliance with the Russian law, while speaking at a meeting with presidential candidates in Moscow on Monday.
"I would like to thank everyone for the fact that the election campaign was conducted in a civilised manner, in full compliance with Russian law," he said.
Putin emphasised the need to continue active joint work in the Russian parliament to implement initiatives that will allow the country to come closer to solving the current issues, including workers’ ‘income in the social sphere’.
In turn, the meeting participants congratulated Putin on his winning the next six-year term. LDPR chairperson and presidential candidate Leonid Slutsky noted that the election campaign was an historic one.
"In fact, a new global majority is already being actively formed today, and Russia is the centre of attraction for this new world politics, the system of international relations, a stable, secure and balanced world architecture for the new century. And all of this is being formed around your ideas and approaches. Therefore, I would like to say that this is a truly historic campaign," the politician emphasised.
According to the CEC, after processing 100 per cent of ballots, incumbent President Vladimir Putin has won the election with 87.28 per cent of votes. Russian Communist Party candidate Nikolai Kharitonov came second with 4.3 per cent. Vladislav Davankov of the New People party and Leonid Slutsky of the LDPR are in third and fourth positions with 3.8 and 3.2 per cent of ballots, respectively.
At the time of publication, voter turnout for the presidential election was 77.49 per cent, including remote electronic voting.
