Pheu Thai Party Chair Paetongtarn Shinawatra noted that Thailand's prime minister expressed his desire to join BRICS to Russian President Vladimir Putin, while speaking at the 'BRICS and Partner Countries - World Majority for a Multipolar World' international inter-party forum in Vladivostok on Monday.

"The prime minister of Thailand has already written a letter to President Putin informing him of our desire to join BRICS at the earliest opportunity. We believe that we should become such a bridge for different cultures and different nations. Thailand believes in the development of BRICS and its place in the organisation," Shinawatra said.

Head of the International Department of Chinese Communist Party Central Committee Liu Jianchao added that in today's world it is impossible for a narrow circle of countries to set the international agenda, so it is necessary to build a solid foundation for a new multipolar world order.

"The trend toward democratisation of international relations is unstoppable, and the international community's call for equality and justice is growing stronger by the day. However, hegemonism, power politics, unilateralism, and Cold War thinking are still operative in the transition from the old to the new world order. <...> Being at a new historical crossroads, countries are actively giving their answers to the question of the age, namely what the world is becoming and what we should do about it," Jianchao noted.

For his part, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairperson Dmitri Medvedev pointed out a desire of other countries to join BRICS, as it provides an equal dialogue, respect for the development paths of each state and respect for each other's interests.

"Against the background of the processes that are taking place in the world, the BRICS association is becoming increasingly important. Over the 15 years of its existence, it has become a unique mechanism of interstate co-operation. <...> other countries are eager to join BRICS, this interstate association. There are already dozens of them, including those from our region: Thailand, Vietnam and a number of other countries," Medvedev said.

'BRICS and Partner Countries - World Majority for a Multipolar World' international inter-party forum is taking place in Vladivostok from June 17 to 18. More than 150 representatives from 32 countries (China, Ethiopia, Laos, Thailand and other states) are taking part in the event.
