Vietnamese President To Lam spoke of Moscow and Hanoi's friendly relations and shared comprehensive strategic partnership, as he and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed bilateral agreements on Thursday.

"Our countries are united by traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership. We also always appreciate and remember the selfless help and support that the Russian people have given to Vietnam in our struggle for independence, for the settlement of the country," To Lam said.

Putin arrived in Hanoi for a two-day visit on Wednesday at the invitation of Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the country’s Communist Party.

The Russian leader is holding talks with To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chair Tran Thanh Man.

The last time the Russian leader travelled to the republic was in 2017, when he attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit in Da Nang.

Earlier, Putin visited Pyongyang and held talks with DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) leader Kim Jong-un.
