    Hundreds of locals and tourists gathered in Yerevan’s central square with buckets and water pistols on Sunday as the Armenian capital celebrated the Vardavar holiday with a colossal water fight.

    Footage shows participants soaking each other with water and bathing in the fountains on Republic Square.

    Vardavar is a traditional festival in honour of the 'Transfiguration of the Lord', celebrated 14 weeks after Easter. It is believed that water on this day has magical properties and can wash away sins.
