Russian President Vladimir Putin said he hoped his state visit to Vietnam would reinforce Moscow-Hanoi relations during talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Thursday.
"Despite all the difficulties of the present time, we aim to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and will contribute to it in every possible way," Putin said.
The Russian leader also noted the assistance the Soviet Union provided to Vietnam in its conflicts with France and the United States, saying the country remembers and 'cherishes this memory'.
Putin arrived in Hanoi on Wednesday for a two-day visit at the invitation of the Communist Party's general secretary, Nguyen Phu Trong.
The agenda for the state visit also includes meetings with President To Lam and National Assembly Chair Tran Thanh Man.
The Russian leader last visited the republic in 2017, when he attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit in Da Nang.
Earlier, Putin visited Pyongyang and held talks with DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) leader Kim Jong-un.
