Description

Russian cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov described the progress on his initial recovery and rehabilitation journey while back on Earth, following a mission to the International Space Station that lasted almost seven months.

Exclusive footage taken on Monday shows Borisov walking around the Star City grounds, enjoying the weather - and the newfound gravity. Archive video also shows doctors at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre conducting medical tests of the crew members.

"I'm swimming, remembering my swimming technique, loading [up] my muscles, also walking a lot. I really like walking a lot. Walking is actually easier than I thought it would be. Also, let me share some great news with you. The neurologist has just granted permission, I mean, lifted the ban to drive, and I'm excited to get behind the wheel of a car tonight and enjoy driving," the cosmonaut shared.

According to Borisov, the centre's doctors kept a close watch on him for the first two weeks.

"Every morning there were examinations, tests, an endless number of analyses, screening. And the feedback meetings with engineers, the debriefings, where we discuss what else can be improved to move the technology into the future, to improve processes, procedures and make the possible life of a human in space more comfortable, more efficient," Borisov added.

The cosmonaut will spend another week at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre, after which he will go on holiday to a health resort - and said he plans to devote time to himself and his family.

Borisov arrived at the ISS aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon craft with the Crew-7 expedition on August 27, 2023.

The crew also included NASA astronaut and Crew-7 commander Jasmin Moghbeli, European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Andreas Mogensen and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Satoshi Furukawa.

The mission on the orbital station lasted 199 days. On March 12, the spacecraft returned to the Earth, landing in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida.

Borisov is the third Russian cosmonaut to travel to the ISS aboard a SpaceX rocket, after Anna Kikina and Andrey Fedyaev, who arrived at the station in October 2022 and March 2023, respectively.
