Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko warned that 'attack against Belarus' would trigger the Third World War, speaking on People’ Unity Day in Minsk on Tuesday.

"Mark my words: an attack against Belarus will trigger World War Three. This is why neither the Ukrainians, nor the Russians, they understand it perfectly well, nor the Americans, who want to sit it out across the ocean, must do it," he claimed.

Lukashenko also mentioned the potential escalation of the war in Ukraine in September-November on the Belarusian territory, referring to what he called 'national security services' information.

"Americans instructed Kiev to attack our infrastructure at the southern border if appropriate circumstances are in place. The reason is the fact that Russian drones fly over the territory and near the territory of Belarus," the leader continued.

Additionally, Lukashenko added that he aimed to pass on 'the peaceful, beautiful, and decent land' to further generations so that they could 'live and raise their children'.

"Neither drones nor long-range missiles will help them achieve that. I swear to you that we have what we can respond with. We have [everything necessary] to make them pause to think before advancing in our direction," Lukashenko said.

In mid-August, he claimed that Ukrainian UAVs 'kept crossing' the Belarus’ border, though all were destroyed by Russian air defence.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on September 12 about Belarusian troops buildup at the border.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
