Description

Head of the Namibian Health Ministry's Epidemiology Department Iyaloo Mwaningange said her nation had been learning about 'best practices' from African countries and from Russia, speaking on the sidelines of the Russian-African International Conference on Combatting Infectious Diseases in Kampala on Thursday.

"We are learning best practices among ourselves from African countries and also from Russia. We are having experts in various areas, especially the laboratory, so these presentations and discussions, that are actually happening, can help us, can assist all the participants whether in Africa or Russia to see how we can move forward in realising the public health security," she said.

Mwaningange also noted that Russia had been at the forefront of collaboration in combatting infectious diseases for the last 10 years.

"Most of our healthcare professionals, many of healthcare professionals actually were trained in Russia; they have been providing technical support to many of our countries in term of management of infectious diseases," Mwaningange concluded.

In turn, Manueala Christophere Vololoniana, director of the Epidemiology Monitoring Department of Madagascar's Ministry of Health said the country conducted a 'useful' exchange of views and experiences with the Russian delegation.

The Russian-African International Conference on Combatting Infectious Diseases is taking place on April 17-19 in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. 170 delegates from 16 countries will discuss the prevention and treatment of diseases, and share experiences in countering dangerous outbreaks, new disease surveillance technologies and scientific research.
