Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow was 'ready to do everything we can' to provide Iran with assistance in determining the 'true cause' of late president Raisi’s helicopter crash, speaking at a meeting with State Duma Chairperson Vyasheslav Volodin on Tuesday.

"For our part, we will make every effort to ensure that Russian-Iranian relations continue to develop in the same spirit. Please convey these words to Iran’s leadership. And if our colleagues require it, we are ready to do everything we can to provide them with expert support and assistance in determining the true cause of this crash," Putin stated.

The Russian president also said that Raisi was a 'very reliable partner' guided by national interests: "He was a man of his word, and it was a pleasure working with him."

Volodin confirmed he would fly to Tehran on Wednesday morning to represent Russia at the funeral ceremony.

"The President of Iran, who died in a helicopter crash, did a great deal to strengthen relations between our countries. He addressed the State Duma, and when we visited Iran, he met with our deputies. Therefore, it is indeed a huge loss, as you said," Volodin added.

Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi will be buried in his hometown of Mashhad on May 23. His foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian will be buried at Tehran’s Shah Abdul-Azim shrine.

Raisi, Amir-Abdollahian and others were confirmed dead by state media and officials after their helicopter came down in the mountains of northern Iran during heavy fog on Sunday.

The Supreme Leader declared five days of national mourning. First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber will take over as acting president for an interim period, with elections scheduled after 50 days. Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani becomes acting foreign minister.

Condolences came from the leaders of Russia, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Egypt and others. Raisi, a conservative cleric seen as close to the Supreme Leader, was elected in 2021.
