Description

Residents of Russia's Novokuznetsk, Krasnoyarsk and Sirius Federal Territory took part in voting in the presidential election on Sunday.

Footage also shows citizens taking part in traditional Maslenitsa ('Crepe Week') festivities which coincided with the election, near a polling station in Novokuznetsk; burning an effigy, watching artistic performances, singing folk songs and taking part in a tug-of-war.

The video also shows voters from Krasnoyarsk and Sirius registering and putting ballots into ballot boxes.

"Both the election and the Maslenitsa are directed and addressed to each of us, each resident, and together we not only celebrate the holiday, but also build our future," said Mahmud Mikov, chief director of 'Aluminshchik' Palace of Culture.

Anna Zavaryko, a resident of Novokuznetsk, said she always associated elections with a holiday.

"I always vote. As soon as I turned 18, I considered it's my duty, and always a holiday for me," she explained.

Another voter, Marina Dolbunova emphasised that was a patriot and was voting for her people to 'live better, to prosper'.

According to the Russian Central Election Commission, at time of publication, the overall turnout for the presidential election, including remote voting, was more than 70.57 percent.

Russia's presidential election takes place over three days on March 15-17, with early voting between February 25 and March 14.

The four candidates are Leonid Slutsky of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), the Communist Party's Nikolai Kharitonov, Vladislav Davankov of the New People Party and incumbent President Vladimir Putin, running as an independent candidate.
