Russia's Soyuz-2.1b rocket carrying military satellites was launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Arkhangelsk region on Friday.

Footage published by the Defence Ministry shows engineers installing the spacecraft onto the launch pad, and the subsequent blast-off into space.

Former Russian defence minister Sergei Shoigu visited the cosmodrome last month, to view progress on the construction and modernisation of the site, with a second launch pad set to double capacity at the spaceport.
