Russian President Vladimir Putin said he believed a 'BRICS Parliament' itself would 'definitely be implemented' in the future, while delivering his speech at the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St Petersburg on Thursday.

"BRICS does not yet have its own institutionalised parliamentary structure, but I believe that this idea will definitely be implemented in the future. I am sure that your forum will contribute to this. The main thing is that such meetings have already proved to be an example of trust, mutual support and free dialogue, strengthening the authority of the organisation and its influence in the world," Putin said.

The leader also announced a variety of events for the current Russian presidency of the organisation, saying that BRICS would continue to increase the 'pace of work'.

"Openness, justice and equality are the principles that unite the BRICS countries. And the role of parliamentary forums and conferences in promoting them in world politics is truly immense," Putin added.

The 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum takes place in St Petersburg from July 11-12, with delegations from 17 countries participating. According to organisers, parliamentarians are discussing ways to improve the efficiency of international relations, counter any fragmentation of multilateral trade, address the consequences of global crises, and enhance co-operation in humanitarian and cultural spheres.
