Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu met with high-ranking security officials from India, Uzbekistan, Bahrain, and the UAE on the sidelines of the BRICS and BRICS+ meeting in St. Petersburg on Wednesday.

"My gratitude and thanks to you and also for conducting this BRICS and this meeting which I think was very successful. There was very fruitful interaction and exchange of ideas, and we were able to get some good new perspectives on various issues," said Ajit Doval, the Indian National Security Advisor.

In turn, Shoigu called New Delhi one of Moscow’s 'main like-minded partners' on the global stage.

Meanwhile, UAE Supreme National Security Council Secretary General Ali Al Shamsi highlighted the active development of relations between the two countries.

"We appreciate the role that Russia and your Security Council have played in developing relations between our countries at the strategic level. And we are eager to continue our co-operation in the interests of our countries," he said.

The secretary general also reaffirmed Abu Dhabi’s 'balanced position' over the Ukrainian conflict and support for efforts to achieve peace between Moscow and Kiev.

The meeting of high-ranking security officials of BRICS and BRICS+ countries takes place in St. Petersburg on September 10-12.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
