Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov announced that the share of alternative and national currencies in trade between Russia and India has reached nearly 90 percent, during the 25th Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) meeting held in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Footage from the event shows Manturov and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar signing the final protocol.

"The share of national and alternative currencies in bilateral trade is growing. It has already reached 90 per cent. We believe it is necessary to continue working on the expansion of correspondent relations between Russian and Indian banks," Manturov said.

Additionally, he pointed out a five-fold increase in mutual trade with India over the past five years.

"As a result, India has moved into second place among Russia's foreign economic partners. This positive trend is continuing this year. In the first eight months, trade turnover has increased by nine per cent compared to last year," the deputy prime minister added.

The government press service also reported that the two sides discussed co-operation in culture, tourism, and education.
