A dress rehearsal for the huge flotilla parade in honour of Russia's Navy Day took place in St Petersburg on Thursday.

Footage shows ships, assault boats, and minesweepers decorated with flags, sailing under the bridge, while crowds of locals gathered along the embankment of the Neva River to enjoy a sneak peek at the spectacle.

Earlier, the St Petersburg Committee for Transport Infrastructure Development announced that bridges would be lifted during the parade rehearsals on July 21 and 25.

"Liteiny, Troitsky, Palace, and Blagoveshchensky bridges will be raised from 10:50 am to 12:25 am (Moscow time) these days. Night bridge raising is expected as scheduled. <...> The transport passage via the bridges will be suspended," the report stated.

The celebration will be held on July 28. In addition to the parade, concerts, other entertainment and a nighttime fireworks display will also take place.

Russia's Navy Day was established on May 31, 2006 by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and is traditionally celebrated on the last Sunday of July.
