Latin American countries 'will become major centres of multipolar world order', Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated in Moscow on Monday during talks with Laureano Ortega Murillo, the Nicaraguan President's Special Representative for developing relations with Russia.

"The unipolar world is coming to an end. New centres of power have emerged, including structures such as BRICS, SCO, CELAC and the African Union. The days of colonialism and neo-colonialism are undoubtedly over. <...> Latin America and the Caribbean will become one of the major centres of the multipolar world order. We see this as a healthy trend," Lavrov said.

The Russian Foreign Minister stressed that Moscow appreciates and welcomes the 'trusted, regular and detailed dialogue' with Nicaragua on issues and security on the international agenda.

Ortega Murillo, for his part, noted that the Republic 'supports the Russian people and government', expressed his condolences for the terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall and congratulated the people of the Russian Federation for their 'excellent results in the presidential election'.
