A pre-flight press conference for the main and backup crews of the 21st expedition to the ISS on the Soyuz MS-25 spacecraft took place on Friday in Zvezdnyi Gorodok, Moscow Region.

During the conference, Marina Vasilevskaya, a member from Belarus, expressed her excitement about the upcoming flight, saying that for her it is 'a tremendous honour to be part of the main crew for the historic flight of the first Belarusian cosmonaut to the International Space Station'. She also mentioned that the team will conduct a series of scientific experiments during the mission.

"I am sure that all the outcomes of scientific experiments will provide a high impetus to our country, the Republic of Belarus, to reach scientific achievements and breakthroughs," Vasilevskaya added.

Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky spoke about the preparations and tasks of the upcoming mission, and noted that space is 'beyond politics', so all crew members 'will act together'.

"We refrain from getting involved in politics as we consider ourselves professionals. Our primary focus is on our flight programme, which we diligently carry out. At the station, every individual's reliance on each other is paramount, as in the event of an emergency, we do not distinguish between one another and offer help as needed. We prepare for our missions collectively and maintain a strong sense of camaraderie both during our time on the station and after our flights. If there are any political matters, they should be resolved by politicians on Earth," Novitsky explained.

In turn, NASA astronaut Tracy Dyson added that 'the International Space Station is a beautiful example of how a team comes together'.

The crew of the 21st expedition is scheduled to depart for the ISS on the Soyuz MS-25 spacecraft on 21 March. The crew comprises Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Novitsky and Ivan Wagner, spaceflight participants from Belarus Marina Vasilevskaya and Anastasia Lenkova, and NASA astronauts Tracy Dyson and Donald Pettit.

According to Roscosmos, the team will head to the Baikonur Cosmodrome on March 6 to undergo pre-launch training.
