Description

Cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko, Nikolai Chub, and Aleksandr Grebenkin passed on their best wishes to their fellow Russians from aboard the International Space Station (ISS) on Friday, marking the country's annual Cosmonautics Day.

"We have a wealth of intriguing new ventures ahead of us, and it is only through rallying around the noble objective of space exploration that we will be able to accomplish them. We extend our good wishes for robust health, prosperity, and continued triumphs to all our compatriots and colleagues in the industry," Grebenkin said.

Kononenko referred to the 90th anniversary of the birth of the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin - on March 9 this year - acknowledging his lasting impact on global history.

"The name of the world's first cosmonaut is eternally engraved in global history, and we take great pride in continuing the legacy of our predecessors by advancing our domestic space exploration endeavours," he said.

Chub expressed his gratitude to those workers who played a crucial role in bringing the 'visions of esteemed designers to life' in the rocket and space industry.

Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub arrived at the International Space Station on the Soyuz MS-24 manned spacecraft in September 2023, while Alexander Grebenkin joined an international crew on a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft on March 4 2024.

Cosmonautics Day marks Gagarin's landmark, first-ever crewed spaceflight on April 12, 1961.
