Description

The first foreign participants arrived at Sochi International Airport on Thursday to take part in the World Youth Festival 2024.

Footage shows volunteers, performers and animators welcoming delegations from India, Argentina, Venezuela and other countries in the lobby of the airport.

Harmanjot Singh Gill, a participant from India, shared that his team wanted to learn more about Russia.

"We are looking forward to learn a lot of Russian culture. We have very high expectations, and we are looking forward to learn from Russia. And we are looking for more friendly ties with Russia," the man said.

Another participant from India said it was an 'honour and privilege' for him to take part in WYF 2024.

A delegate from Argentina, Stefano Cadiboni, noted that he had been preparing for the event for a long time.

"We have [started] preparing this festival about three or four months ago. And we have been waiting for this moment for three months. So now I cannot believe it, that I stay here and now it's starting," Cadiboni said.

Marko Pijevac from Serbia added that the festival is a good opportunity to develop mutual understanding between the countries.

"I think it's really important, because in the current world, in the 21st century it's really important to talk, to be in touch with other cultures, people from all over the world. And I think this is a perfect chance for young people to get to know each other and build bridges that will help them in the future to understand each other better," Pijevac noted.

Bahraini participant Fatima Hammadi added that the event will encourage people from different countries to learn from each other. This will lead to the world being 'a better place for everyone'.

The World Youth Festival will be held from 1-7 March 2024, to develop international youth co-operation and to bring together 20,000 young people. The regional programme will take place from 10-17 March 2024, during which the participants will visit 30 Russian cities.
