World Youth Festival participant from Uganda Davis Akampurira told Russian President Vladimir Putin he wished he was his 'son from Africa', at the event's closing ceremony on Wednesday.

"What can I say to you, son? First, I want to address you not only as a son, but also as a president - you are the president of the student union, so let me address you also as 'Mr President'," Putin replied to the student.

In addition, the Russian leader claimed that 'an overwhelming mojority' of states did not like what he called a 'strengthening' of US monopoly.

"They have created a monopoly and they have consolidated it. I don't mean the people did it, but the American elites did it. Strengthening their monopoly they faced the fact that the overwhelming majority of the countries of the world do not like it very much," Putin said.

"The events in Iraq, everything that was done there without the sanction of the Security Council, in Syria and Yugoslavia. I'm not going to talk about the reasons now, but there were no decisions for the UN Security Council. But the US let the genie out of the bottle. But if they are allowed, why are other countries not allowed to protect their fundamental interests in the same way?" the president added.

The World Youth Festival took place on March 1-7. According to the organisers, it intends to develop international youth co-operation and bring together 20,000 young people. The regional programme will take place on March 10-17, during which the participants will visit 30 Russian cities.
