Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune emphasised the important role of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the international arena while speaking at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Friday.

"I would take this opportunity once again to thank His Excellency President Putin, who is very moderate in his interventions, who allowed my country to mediate in resolving, the current crisis with Ukraine, if possible. And I conclude from the words of His Excellency President Putin that he is a friend of the whole world, like Algeria," Tebboune noted.

The Algerian leader called on Moscow to join efforts and consider the interests of poor countries.

"With Russia's contribution to alleviating some of the current crises by providing and facilitating the export of grain and its contribution to the stability of global energy prices, from this perspective I call for concerted action and work together," he said.

Tebboune also added that Algeria had become a promising place for investment in energy, infrastructure, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, as well as food production and manufacturing industries.

The 26th SPIEF takes place on June 14-17. According to the organisers Roscongress, more than 17,000 people from 130 countries and territories will participate.

The forum has taken place since 1997. Since 2005, SPIEF is held under the patronage and with the participation of the president of the Russian Federation.
