Kim Jong-un, leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, greeted Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian delegation at the official banquet in Pyongyang on Wednesday.

"Let me warmly welcome the honourable President [of Russia], Comrade [Vladimir] Putin and all Russian friends to Pyongyang, as it was 24 years ago at the beginning of the new millennium. On behalf of the government and people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, I would like to express my deepest respect to the government and people of Russia," DPRK leader announced.

Putin arrived in Pyongyang on Tuesday for a two-day official visit. The heads of state are scheduled to hold discussions on various topics such as the economy, energy, agriculture, trade, international relations, and security.

This visit marks the Russian president's second trip to the DPRK. In 2000 he met with the current leader's father and predecessor, Kim Jong Il.

Following his official visit to Pyongyang, Putin will leave for Hanoi at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong.
