Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday that Hanoi intends to develop co-operation with Moscow in all spheres.

"We always attach very great importance to a comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia, and Russia is at the centre of our foreign policy at all levels. <...> We want to enhance cooperation with Russia in all spheres for the benefit of the region: peace, stability and development in the region are in the interests of our countries," Tran Thanh Man stated.

In turn, Putin stressed that relations with Vietnam are one of the 'unconditional priorities' of the Kremlin’s foreign policy.

Putin arrived in Hanoi on Wednesday for a two-day visit at the invitation of the Communist Party's General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The agenda for the state visit also includes meetings with President To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The Russian leader last visited the republic in 2017, when he attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit in Da Nang.

Earlier, Putin visited Pyongyang and held talks with DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) leader Kim Jong-un.
