    The Russian national anthem was played in the foyer of Hanoi's Grand Opera House on Thursday as dignitaries welcomed President Vladimir Putin at an official reception ceremony.

    Footage shows honour guards holding both Vietnamese and Russian flags as other attendees stood and listened to the anthem.

    Putin arrived in Hanoi on Wednesday for a two-day visit at the invitation of the Communist Party's General Secretary, Nguyen Phu Trong.

    The agenda for the state visit also includes meetings with President To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chair Tran Thanh Man.

    The Russian leader last visited the republic in 2017, when he attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit in Da Nang.

    Earlier, Putin visited Pyongyang and held talks with DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) leader Kim Jong-un.
