Vietnamese President To Lam stated that he had 'very deep feelings for the great Russia', while speaking at a reception to honour the visit of the Russian President Vladimir Putin to Hanoi on Thursday.

"Like many Vietnamese, I have very deep feelings for the great Russia, which embodies both majestic nature, heroic history and rich culture. We are familiar with Tchaikovsky's music, Pushkin's poems and Levitan's paintings, which are deeply imbued with the Russian character and soul. Russia's enduring strength and creative spirit are expressed in its achievements in the exploration of Antarctica or the exploits of Gagarin, the first man in space," To Lam said.

The President stressed that the Republic values its 'comradeship and loyal friendship' with Russia.

"As a close friend and comrade of Russia, Vietnam has always closely followed and sincerely rejoiced over its important development achievements under your leadership. Russia has maintained political and social stability and dynamic economic growth, which has also strengthened Russia's role as a great power," said To Lam.

For his part, Putin expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and noted Vietnam's dynamic development.

"Vietnam has rightly become one of the recognised development leaders in the Asia-Pacific region," the head of state pointed out.

Putin arrived in Vietnam for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the country’s Communist Party.

The last time the Russian president travelled to the republic was in 2017, when he attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit in Da Nang.

Earlier, Putin visited Pyongyang and held talks with DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) leader Kim Jong-un.
