Description

Thousands of Iranian activists gathered in Berlin on Saturday to rally against the Tehran government and call for democratic changes in Iran after the first round of the country's presidential elections.

"We're supporting the 10-point plan of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi for freedom, democracy and justice in our country and we're here to support the aspiration of the people of Iran for democratic change inside the country," declared Mosa Zahed, an Iranian protester at the rally.

Footage shows protesters chanting while waving Iranian flags and holding banners with slogans denouncing the 'repression' acts that the 'Mullah's' regime (clerical regime) had been ruling the country since the 1979 revolution.

"We have seen a massive protests in Iran in the past couple of years, but especially after Mahsa Amini’s death we saw a massive uprising in across all provinces in Iran and people coming into the streets and demanding a change, Revolution against the current establishment that has been there for 45 years," Zahed said.

The rally was called by the National Council of Resistance of Iran, an opposition movement established in 1981 and banned in the country. Up to 6,000 people had gathered to join the rally, according to local police, while organisers registered the demonstration for 8,000 participants.

According to Zahed, protesters are calling on the European Union to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a 'terrorist organisation' and demand that the international community 'stop their appeasement policy' towards the Iranian government.

"The majority of our people want change," he continued. "This regime has been successfully suppressing them, oppressing them. [...] [It is] absolutely crucial and important that the international community backs their aspirations instead of sitting around the table and dealing with them, you know, trying to establish nuclear deals and that type of thing."

The first round of Iran's presidential elections took place on Friday, with results sending Member of Parliament Masoud Pezeshkiyan and member of the Expediency Discernment Council Saeed Jalili into the second run-off. Pezeshkiyan received 42 percent of the vote, while Jalili garnered 39 percent. The second round of the election is scheduled for July 5.

The election was held a year ahead of schedule due to the 19 May helicopter crash that killed President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and six others in the northwestern mountains.
