Canadian fans erupted in jubilation outside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, following their victory over Venezuela in a nail-biting penalty shootout to secure a spot in the Copa semi-final on Friday.
Footage shows Canadian fans wrapped in the national flag, adorned in red and white jerseys, chanting 'Oh Canada'. Meanwhile, Venezuelan fans could be seen leaving the stadium while holding national flags, many of them expressed their pride in their team's performance.
"Never in my wildest dreams did I think that we would be in the semi-finals but the way the game played tied going to a kick-out and then penalty kicks and then an extra penalty kicks on top of that. We flew in from Toronto for this so this couldn't have been better the best weekend ever," said one Canadian fan
"I have faith! we were fanatic, we have always had a lot of faith and well, I think we demonstrated it here," a Venezuelan fan said. "We continue to give a warning to the world that we are going to fight here in the World Cup," added another.
Canada won 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw, earning a spot in the semifinals against World Cup champions Argentina in East Rutherford on Tuesday.
