Thousands of hectares of forest have been completely burnt in Pucallpa amid the ongoing wildfires in Peru since July.
Footage captured on Tuesday reveals the catastrophic aftermath of the blaze, with flames sweeping deeper into the forest, trees and grass consumed by fire, and thick smoke billowing into the air.
"The trees were so beautiful. Hey, I went to see that; it's a shame; it's so disastrous to see that you could even start crying," said Pablo Villegas, a resident.
He shared that his land with cocoa plantations and his neighbours' plots, 'everything has been burnt'.
"More or less, approximately, we have lost about a hectare and a half, more or less with everything, a hectare and a half to the fire," declared Villegas.
ocal media reports indicate that at least 15 people have died, 98 have been injured, and over 1,800 others have been affected by the wildfires. Additionally, 334 animals have been reported lost, and more than 3,000 hectares of cultivated land have been scorched nationwide.
The impacts of climate change have exacerbated the situation, as soaring temperatures and a lack of rainfall make conditions ripe for rapid fire spread.
