Hundreds of mourners gathered in Tehran on Friday to pay their respects to Seyed Mahdi Mousavi, who served as the head of late President Ebrahim Raisi’s security team and died alongside him in a helicopter crash last weekend.

Footage shows mourners surrounding Mousavi’s casket as part of a funeral procession which moved through the streets of the Iranian capital amid solemn music and chanting.

Dignitaries such as the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces, Seyyed Mohammad Hossein Musavi and Iranian Vice President for Executive Affairs Mohsen Mansouri are seen in attendance.

"My son wasn't the first martyr, we've been hearing such news for over 40 years, our leader, our President and people like Beheshti (Head of the Supreme Court of Iran) were also martyred," said Hussein Mousavi, father of Syed Mahdi Mousavi.

General Mousavi and late Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian were both laid to rest in Shah Abdul Azim al-Hassani shrine. Mousavi had served as the bodyguard of the former IRGC Major General Muhammad Ali Ja'afari before he was charged with the protection of President Raisi.

The 63-year-old Iranian president, his foreign minister and others were killed when their helicopter came down in the mountains in northern Iran’s East Azerbaijan province in heavy fog on Sunday.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei declared five days of national mourning. First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber will serve as acting president for an interim period, with elections scheduled on June 28. Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani is acting foreign minister.

Messages of condolence arrived from the leaders of Russia, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Egypt and others. Raisi, a conservative cleric seen as close to Ayatollah Khamenei, was elected in 2021
