Hundreds of excited football fans were seen outside the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Thursday ahead of the Copa America group stage match between Uruguay and Bolivia.

Footage shows large crowds from both sides wrapped in their nation's flags as they walked to the stadium at sunset.

"Everybody loves the game. That's why everybody is coming together, it's going to be either really rowdy, or it can end up really nice or very bad for both sides," a Bolivia fan said.

"In Copa America, everybody is family. It seems like everybody is here for the same thing: they just want to see some good football," added a second.

The night would ultimately end in heartbreak for Bolivia, who suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat to their Latin American rivals.

Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri put his team ahead in just the eighth minute, while Liverpool ace Darwin Nunez netted a follow-up before the half-time whistle, his 10th goal in seven appearances.

In the second half, La Liga star Maximiliano Araujo, captain Federico Valverde and Tottenham's Rodrigo Bentancur sealed the deal, moving Uruguay one step closer to the semi-final.

Underdogs Bolivia have lost 15 consecutive Copa America ties since 2015 and will face Panama in Orlando on Monday, with little chance of advancing to the next stage of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Uruguay seeks a record 16th Copa America title and will take on the United States in Missouri next week, where the Latin American side needs to draw or win to move out of the group stage.
