French football enthusiasts breathed a sigh of relief, while Portuguese supporters voiced their disappointment as 'Les Bleus' secured a spot in the EURO semi-finals by triumphing over Portugal in a gripping penalty shootout in Hamburg on Friday.

Footage captured the contrasting emotions of the fans from both teams as they gathered at the fan zone post-match, conveying either joy or sorrow.

"Ronaldo, after he missed the penalty, I was like he is going to score two goals or a hat-trick even. But today [was a] disappointment," said a Portuguese supporter, expressing his chagrin as top-star Cristiano Ronaldo left the tournament with zero goals.

"We missed a lot of chances, at the end it was 0-0. We hoped for more goals in the end, but in terms of emotion it was amazing," said a fan.

'Les Bleus' supporters also gave their verdict on France's next match against Spain in the semi-final, with one stating that "Spain has a very good team [...] so it's going to be very hard, but I hope France can do it."

Fans were later spotted congregating near the Reeperbahn train station, extending their celebrations after a hard-fought game.

Following a goalless draw after 120 minutes of play, France and Portugal battled it out in a tense penalty shootout at Hamburg's Volksparkstadion. Joao Felix's missed shot proved crucial, allowing France to convert all five of their penalty kicks for a 5-3 victory and progression to the next round.

France is now set to face 'La Roja', who secured a 2-1 triumph over host Germany, at the Allianz Arena Stadium in Munich on July 9.
