Description

Dozens of students rallied outside Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday night calling to end 'party student politics' in the university and all educational institutions in Bangladesh.

"No party politics is wanted in the academic area and residential area of the university," DU student Mitu Akter said. "We want a fair environment for quality education and a quality education system. So that students can continue their studies independently."

Aaccording to Acter, political parties keep the attempts 'to introduce party politics on the Dhaka University campus'. "They are trying to organise full-fledged political activities on campus. Their political party's direct program was yesterday. We, common students, do not see this positively," protester explained.

Another student, Oly Ahad, said that student politics might 'spoil the study environment'.

"As a result of student politics, ordinary students get poor results. As a result of political influence ordinary students become oppressors. When the party came to power in Bangladesh, they maintained politics in Dhaka University. Without student politics on campus, political parties will never be able to use ordinary students for their own interests," Ahad claimed.

The rally comes after posters of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student body of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), were placed in the DU campus, according to media reports.

Hundreds of students have lost their lives in clashes between political parties in educational institutions including DU in the past years.
