Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has registered as a candidate for the upcoming presidential election in Tehran on Sunday.

"What made me determined to attend today is the request of dear people from all walks of life from across the country. In addition to stating their love and support, they have insisted on the presence of their servant through various means and even in person," he stated.

Delivering the speech in presence of the journalists, the 67-year old former president declared his goal as 'solving people's livelihood problems' which he hopes to achieve through 'organising the economic situation of the country, promoting and improving the business environment, ending rants and monopolies, limiting unnecessary government interference'.

"I am sure that all the issues of the country will be resolved with the maximum use of national capacities, based on people's votes and opinions, empathy and collective cooperation, appropriate use of the views and experiences of expert professors and efficient specialists in the light of peaceful coexistence and Constructive interaction with the world and prioritising the development of relations, especially economic ones, in the international arena," he added.

Ahmadinejad is known for his hard vies, aggressive foreign policy and support of Iran's nuclear program. He served two terms in office from 2005 to 2013, however, he was barred from running in the 2017 and 2021 presidential elections by the Guardian Council.

The presidential election aimed to replace President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash in May along with seven other people, is expected to be held on June 28.
