A group of worshippers at Donglong temple in Taiwan's Donggang Township continued with their procession on Wednesday despite the bad weather, as Typhoon Krathon made landfall on Wednesday.

Footage shows flooded streets and damaged vehicles, as well as the locals dressed in wet weather gear. Local media reported the storm resulted in a fire at a local hospital that left nine dead.

Nearly 10,000 people were evacuated from across 12 cities and counties.The Central Weather Administration (CWA) said it had issued land warnings covering areas south of Taoyuan, and in the counties of Nantou, Yilan, Hualien, Taitung and the Penghu Islands.

Strong wind alerts were also issued for Kaohsiung and Pingtung County with warnings for gales measuring above 14 on the Beaufort scale.

Meanwhile, around 51,000 households, mostly in Pingtung County and Kaohsiung in the south of the region, were without power as of Thursday morning, according to local media.
