Dozens of surfers can be seen catching perfect waves during a competition to mark the opening of RIF010, the first urban surf pool in the centre of Rotterdam.
Footage captured on Saturday features competitors riding waves in a converted disused canal in the city.
Surfer Anne Zwagers gave a rave review following her urban surf session in the pool, describing it as 'a great experience.' "The waves are super nice, super clean and I really like it now. I had a lot of fun," she added.
"That was a great moment for me and I'm super happy to be here," said Olympic surfing champion Italo Ferreira. "That was a really special day for me, and I had some little moments on the water and everyone was screaming, it was really, really nice," he continued.
RIF010 project owner Edwin van Viegen said that the idea of the surf pool had been ten years in the making. He also noted that the RIF010 foundation aims to allow children who cannot afford to surf to enjoy the experience at the pool.
The RIF010 official website says the project is the world's first surf pool in a city centre. The pool is equipped with a wave machine which can control the strength of waves.
