Description

Dozens of residents from east Afghanistan's village of Jakaorgor gathered on Monday for the funeral of seven family members who were killed in a landslide that struck their home on Sunday.

Footage shows the locals mourning while some dug the victims' graves and buried them after bidding their farewells. The victims' relatives can also be seen receiving humanitarian aid.

"This was a very sad incident, and this was a very poor family. They were facing many financial problems before, and now they will face many other problems," said Ridi Gul, a local who says he witnessed the tragedy on Sunday.

"Our request to the aid societies and institutions is to help this family with the reconstruction of their house, so that their house can be restored and their hearts can be comforted," Gul added.

Another local, Madat Khan, said that two parents lost five of their children and two of their grandchildren in the disaster.

In the remote regions of Afghanistan, the majority of residents dwell in mud houses, which are susceptible to damage from heavy rains, snowstorms, landslides and earthquakes.
